Objective:
You will research the life cycle of the Chinook salmon and
write and illustrate a Power Point presentation in the form of an electronic
children's book ("e-book"). Some of the research materials will include
reference materials provided in class (books, videos, etc.) and the Internet.
While considering your salmon story, think of a storyline that would appeal
to a 6th grader!
You will learn about the salmon life cycle as you research
and read materials such as "The Magnificent Journey"-Bonneville, "Miracle
of the Scarlet Salmon"-Nature, Internet resources, etc. You will learn
English skills and increase your knowledge of the stages of the life cycle
of the salmon through the writing, illustrating, and publishing of an online
children's book. Your books will be reviewed by our partners at the University
of California, Davis. Once your "e-book" is edited you will have the opportunity
to improve it. Selected "e-books" will be posted to our Salmon Cam web
site so vistors can learn about the life cycle of the Chinook salmon.
Life Cycle Stages:
[Include one full life cycle
graphic with all stages, a graphic for each stage of the salmon
life cycle, what the salmon needs (including habitat requirements) for
survival at each stage, who the predators and prey of the salmon are at
the different life cycle stages, what occurs (happens to the salmon) at
each stage, label the anatomy of the salmon at each stage, and include
a glossary of terms...remember to think like a salmon and be creative with
your storyline!]

Assessment:
This project will encompass all of Florin High School's

Schoolwide Learning Results. As you research, write, ilustrate and
publish your "e-book", you will required to demonstrate each of the 6 ESLRs
(Complex Thinker, Self-Directed Learner, Collaborative Worker, Quality
Producer, Effective Communicator, and Community Contributor). There are
two scores for the Salmon Story project. You will recieve a score for your
Power Point electronic children's book content.
You will receive a second score for the presentation
of your Salmon Story.
